Where? Eurocopter Donauwörth, Germany When? 16/09/2006
Eurocopter celebrated its 60th anniversary of the Donauwörth site with a family's day on September 16th, 2006. Whereas wagons and aircraft have been built in earlier times at Donauwörth, the site is today the centre of the German helicopter industry. The main attraction were the construction line of the NH 90 and Tiger helicopters, as well as the interesting sights of the maintenance of other military types currently in service within the German Army and Navy: Sea King, Sea Lynx and CH-53.
But helicopters are not the only main pillar of Eurocopter, a lot of the workshops are also busy with the construction and fabrication of doors for Airbus aircraft. Those places could also be visited during the open doors day, but of course the main focus was on the helicopters.

Tiger & NH-90 Displays
Formation Flight
The final assembly of the EC135 and EC145 was also open for the visitors, but the time for that was very short a the flying display was planned in the morning and in the afternoon. The lunch break would have been one possibility to walk around, but that was very stressful due to the many people who wanted to do the same… The flying was very nice with displays of several former MBB and Eurocopter types: Bo105, BK 117, EC120, EC135, EC145 and the military types Tiger and NH90. Guest appearances were made by a CH-53 from Laupheim and Rainer Wilke with a really stunning aerobatics display on a Bo 105! Furthermore the EADS Heritage Flight Bf 108, Bf 109 and the Me 262 came over from Manching for flight displays. Unfortunately the well planned program had to be disarranged due to the foggy weather in the morning, but nevertheless it has been a pleasure to have been at this very well organized event, which was one of the last for me in 2006.
