Nicely located at the River Rhine and between the Black Forest and near to the border of France the airport of Freiburg celebrated its 100th anniversary this year. The main attraction for the enthusiast that travelled long distances to attend this event was for sure the collection of warbirds that undergo maintenance or restoration in the hangar of MeierMotors.

Several Yaks (3, 9 and 11), a FW 190 were presented, and even a P-51 (N471R), which will become the first German registered Mustang! The idea for the show was quite nice and whereas all the hangars around the airfield have some nice aircraft to offer (e.g. another Pratt&Whitney R-2000 powered Yak-11 N11MQ, Bückers, Stearmans, T-6) other visitors attended the event as well.

The Lufthansa offered pleasure flights in their Ju-52, the P-3 Flyers arrived on Saturday from Tannkosh, as did Uli Dembinski in his Yak-55 who even flew in formation with the Wing Walking Lady Peggy Krainz on Sunday. As Elly Beinhorn also used often used this place one of Germany's three flying Bf 108's flew in as well to honour this famous aviator. And even if Saturday was all grey and quite cold nearly 5000 visitors came to visit the show.

On the following sunny Sunday even more people came and the airfield got really crowded. It was nice to see that such a strong interest has been amongst the public in aviation and their airport, surely driven by the cheap entry fee of only 5€. All in all it was a very nice event, completed by a nice party on Saturday. Thanks to everyone for the fun and the hospitality!
