During the summer 2003 I have had the possibility to make a photo flight with the then only flying Jak-3 in Germany.
The Jak-3 with the registration D-FJAK is based in Freiburg, a city in the southwest of Germany and beautifully located between the banks of the river Rhein and the Black Forest.

Yak-3 D-FJAK

TeamThis warbird is one of the few examples that have been rebuild using original parts and spares by Jakovlev in the 1990s. It has been fitted with a powerful Allison V-12 engine and is capable of attaining speed during the flight display of up to 450 mph, thus being a real enrichment for Airshows in Germany and Europe.

PatchThe Jakovlev is owned by Achim and Elmar Meier, two brothers with an exceptional spirit and dedication when it comes to warbirds. Elmar is specialised in maintenance and has a lot of experience when it comes to the restoration of these flying legends. When he has finished his work he hands the plane over to his brother, an Coverapproved flight instructor, who then presents the planes in the air.
Enough of the words now, enjoy the photos of this photo flight.

If you should want to have more specific information about the history of this please refer to the Flugzeug-CLASSIC, issue 01/2004.
I am dedicating this report and the photos to the Meiers and the chaseplane pilot Bernd and would like to thank them for their kind cooperation and confidence!
Thank's for this experience, guys!

Wings over Houston Airshow

(Reading time: 4 - 8 minutes)

Wings over Houston 2017 was an awesome airshow! Plenty of warbirds, a Messerschmitt Me 262, jets from the Vietnam era, amongst them the venerable F-4D Phantom II, made up for a great program. This great mix on show at Ellington Airport in the South of Houston was enriched by aerobatic acts and the USAF Thunderbirds. With a 34-year long history the airshow is still very much alive and kicking!

F-AIR Colombia

(Reading time: 3 - 5 minutes)

The bi-annual F-AIR COLOMBIA (Feria Aeronautica Internacional) airshow at Rionegro airport, which serves as the international hub for Medellin, is a great chance to catch up with Colombia’s current military aviation hardware. Though the city of Medellin might not be the first thing coming to ones mind when thinking about aviation photography, the Show itself provided a great chance to catch a lot of the hardware of the Fuerza Aérea Colombiana (FAC).

Phantom Pharewell Photo Phlight

(Reading time: 2 - 3 minutes)

The months of June and July 2013 saw the final operations of German F-4F Phantoms. With Jagdgeschwader 71 "R" at Wittmund officially putting Luftwaffe Phantom operations to an end and handing over the QRA task to the Eurofighter, the two Manching-based Phantoms were the last German examples to soldier on for some more days. During those final days also arose a unique photo opportunity - a Phantastic "Phantom Pharewell Photo Phlight"!
