Page 2 of 4 Another surprise on the first day was the Presidential Tu-154 fly-by at the same time when the Police Force Demo including a Mi-171 was taking place. The very same timing was also repeated on Sunday and after a closer look at the flight program it was quite obvious that this was planned like this. Quite impressive, but it might have made some of the spectators a bit nervous…Tu-154 fly-by and Police Force Demo incl. Mi-171 However the view of the Tupolev performing a touch&go on the nearby runway and photographing this - nearly needing a wide angle lens – was absolutely fabulous! Though it was quite difficult to decide on which to aim, and on both days I unfortunately did not succeed in getting a shot of both aircraft together.
Of course more helicopters were in the air, this time with a Rescue Demo using a Mi-17 and two Mi-24 that were performing some fly-bys, while the Mi-17 was picking up some soldiers. The Mi-24 was later on also presented in a solo display. Rescue Demo with Mi-17 and Mi-24Mi-24 Solo DisplayThe only foreign aircraft display came from the Czech Air Force with their L-159A ALCA and JAS 39C solo displays. On Saturday their A319CJ VIP aircraft was also present at Piestany and performed an impressive high performance and low-level take-off run along the 2000m short runway at the end of the day. Czech Air Force - L-159A ALCA and JAS 39C solo displays & A319CJ VIP aircraftFurthermore the Polish Orlik Display Team and their C-295 support aircraft were the only ones presenting formation aerobatics during NLD 2008. Polish Orlik Display Team & C-295 support aircraftThe small part of civil aircraft displays consisted of a private Ae-145 and the Hungarian Li-2 that really showed off what can be done with a piston-powered aircraft of that size. Tight turns, low fly-bys – if only the sun would have been out a bit more often for some nice photos… Ae-145 and Li-2
